Airside Andy. It’s a new digital world for children to play in that combines never-ending recreation with a never-ending world of both SEL and STEM learning.
Airside Andy is the story of the inner workings of Intercity Airport, as a team of ground-based airport vehicles and ground crew, along with their leaders Andy and Tilly, work together to help the planes take off and run the airport. The game is being developed with internationally acclaimed media developer, Technicolor and aims to encourage meaningful and relevant learning in children aged between 4 and 8.
In Airside Andy’s world, children learn through play! The unique learning emphasis on the game is firmly rooted in developing younger children’s knowledge and understanding of workings within the airport, especially early concepts connected with teamwork, creativity, empathy, science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Airside Andy aims to add value to creative play through technology, rather than technology distracting from it. As children – or “crew scamps” – work towards evolving the airport together through a combination of SEL-focussed team-building incentives and STEM-focussed mini-games, they are connected to a constant and exponential increase in learning.
Being an MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online), Airside Andy world will also be encouraging the development of children’s fluid development as it presents opportunities to multitask through:
- Communicating through text (all text is pre-programmed)
- Operating a character
- Managing short-term objectives
- Managing long-term objectives
- Seeking novelty
- Networking
In developing this world for children and the games within the world, we are drawing inspiration from you!
Airside Andy would like mums and dads and crew scamps to jump in, look about and let Andy know here – or through the site – what you think. And if you like it, Andy hopes you’ll share it also, to get the word out.
